What was your first sewing project?

This little quilt was my first sewing project some 16+ years ago. I never would have imagined way back then, that someday one of my littlest would be laying on it out in the grass. Nor would I have thought that this little quilt would still be in one piece.
It's funny how one Home Economics class in high school inspired me so much.
Two of my most favorite creations together!

So what was your first sewing project?

  1. Mine was a quilt as well, however it's still not finished (needs binding) and it's been almost 10 years (oops)hmmm, guess I should get on that...lol New follower, found you through Tip Junkie, loving your blog!

  2. My first project was a quilt for my sister's baby (he is 10 now:). I got it done and gave it away (and never see it.... kinda glad as I am sure that it has LOTS of things that would make me cringe :)

    I love yours.

  3. My first was a pillow in Home Economics class in 6th grade. I've sewed off and on since! I've recently fallen back in love with sewing and don't see ever stopping ;)

By the way, I made your Checkbook Cover tutorial here: http://thiscrazyblessedlife.blogspot.com/2011/07/giving-is-so-much-fun.html

  4. As I stumbled upon blogs last year, this one in particular peaked my interest with your tent. Looks easy enough I thought. So I borrowed one of my mom's sewing machines and made it. My mom was so impressed she bought me my own machine and I have made many projects since then. So thanks Christina for helping me get my feet wet!

  5. How cool is that? Great pictures! I made a quilt in college with pictures on it. I designed it myself (what a pain). Thats how I met my husband too! He was working at the copy center where I got my photos copied for the quilt till he could find another job. .

  6. Mine was a yoga mat/quilt that I made at my Grandmother's house several years back! (And excellent post by the way, I'm going to have to do one similar today!)

  7. My first project was a patchwork pillow, half hand stitched and half stitched on my grandmother's ancient Singer. No photos, but I still have it in storage somewhere.

  8. My first sewing project was a draw-string bag that my mom helped me make when I was about 8 years old... to hold these Madeline felt-boards I had that are somewhere in my bedroom. I know that I would get bored easily because patterns my mom wanted me to make she guided me a little too much through, and spent too much time explaining why each seam was important. Now I sew my own things and don't ask help from my mom-- now I ask my older sister!! =] Love the blanket!! So cute!!

  10. A pillow... it was 27 years ago and I made a heart-shaped taffeta pillow. It was burgandy and putting the lace all the way around the seam was the hardest. I didn't care for closing the opening after stuffing the pillow either. I've come a long way since that pillow and didn't really find my sewing style until after my Mom passed and I started sewing alone. I learned bending the rules was okay and the most important thing wasn't a perfectly finished project. What matters is the joy in creating it - and finishing it. I had to sit and think for awhile what in the world my first sewing project was. It's been quite a few years!
