How to make a traveling sewing kit.

I have always wanted a traveling sewing kit, but just never thought to buy one, until I needed one. Well the other day I saw one in Walmart and realized that I could make one that would fit my needs better then the one they had for sale. All I had to do was purchase a few things and I had the most perfect little traveling sewing kit for me. Materials Needed:
*Velcro with a sticky back
*Heat bond roll
*Folding scissors
*Measuring tape
*Bobbins
*Safety pins
*Needles
*Pins
*Felt
*3 yards of ribbon
*Seam ripper
*Traveling soap container

I took a scrap piece of felt and cut it to a size that would fit nicely into my soap container. Then I took the piece of felt and put all of my pins, safety pins and sewing needles onto it. I also wanted to have some ribbon on hand, so I cut about 3 yards off from a roll and included that into my kit. Of course a measuring tape is a must and I found this little round one in the sewing section at Walmart. This will come in handy for many things and not just for sewing.
I also included two pieces of Velcro with the sticky backing and a roll of heat bond. These will come in handy when you don't have the time to sew or you need to fix something that cannot be sewn. For your thread, take your bobbins and use your sewing machine to wind thread on the bobbins. I chose the colors that we would most likely need. And lastly I added a seam ripper and some folding scissors.
Neatly fit everything into your traveling soap container and your good to go!
Now I won't be stranded without some sewing goodies when I need to fix something in a jiff!

  3. GREAT idea. Somehow I always end up needing a quick fix-er-up on the road but I'm never prepared for it (you'd think I'd learn....).
