2011 Advent Calendar.

One of my favorite traditions at Christmas time is an advent calendar. (Christmas 2009)

I just love how excited the kids get everyday when they get to open a gift. (Christmas 2010)

And how they try so hard to wait til Daddy's home before they open that little package.

(Daddy's advent calendar 2010)

This year I decided to do a book advent calendar. We already had 20 Christmas and winter related books, so all I had to do was pick up a few more.
I love that I got to spend more time wrapping then shopping. I'm one of those crazy people that loves wrapping.
Sometimes my gifts look better on the outside then on the inside...that's just part of the fun for me.

I used a mixture of paper, fabric, and yarn to wrap the books and just made a bunch of numbers in print shop. A little time consuming, but well worth it in my book.

Once the wrapping was done I stuck them all in this little wooden caddy.
I'm sure you all know why I wanted our advent calendar portable this year.
That's right, my fingers are crossed that we will be opening #25 in our new living room. We are so close, yet still so many little details left to finish.

Any of you have advent calendars? Do you make a new one each year?

  1. What a great idea! I had planned on doing making an advent calendar this year but time and health got away from me. I am going to try and make it next summer so that it will be ready in time for Christmas next year!

  3. Funny you should mention that. I have just been gathering up what I need to make my advent calendar. My very first. I love how varied and unique yours are. Thanks for sharing. I want to get my family into the advent tradition because Christmas is so much more than a day on the calendar.... OH, and I LOVE wrapping, too :)

  4. Are you a crazy woman???? Do you really make a new advent calendar every year??? Holy smokes. In my mind I've thought Hey...I'd like that girl for a neighbor but....now....man, I don't think I could take the pressure. :)
But I do hope you get to open them in your new living room.

  6. My mother made an advent calendar when my brother and I were born that we still use every year (despite being old enough to soon have kids of our own). She used several matchboxes and crafted a beautiful calendar. Each matchbox is filled with a peice of paper with a clue. The clues then lead to a bag of jigsaw pieces (and sometimes a gift). With a few jigsaw pieces every day you have something to do, and by Christmas you have a finished jigsaw.

Good luck with the living room !

  9. Oh, I love your packages ! I do a book calendar this year, for the second time: last year, I was inspired by the "book-and-a-craft" calendar I found on Belladia. This year, I spent a lot of time at the library, bought a few more books, and wrapped them. I also do a simple candy calendar, and my children find a little gift every morning in a fabric pouch, hanging on the banister (there are 24 of them), left by an elf. They still believe in it, and I'm as excited about finding the little treasures all year long than they are every morning. I love this time !
